A plea for considering the renewables expansion in a holistic way that incorporates the green job it triggers

Recently, I read an interesting comment on LinkedIn which translated the PV expansion in Austria, which is a cornerstone of the upcoming EAG law (Erneuerbaren-Ausbau-Gesetz) in hardware and handles required to reach the objective of additional 27 TWh PV generation capacity until 2030:

And very good news on top of that: Millions of modules do not install themselves, nor do hundreds of thousands of meters of cable. And that’s just PV; in addition, there is the expansion of wind, hydropower and – just as importantly – networks, hydrogen / biomethane; Power-to-X, storage, etc.

Therefore, with all the affirmation of the social dimension and the assessment that the energy transition can only succeed with broad public acceptance and support: a mere cost analysis (à la “ned more than 100 EUR per household …”) falls short here and misjudges the potential and economic benefits of the energy transition as a key driver of growth and jobs; especially in this economically challenging situation.

There are certainly enough studies as a basis for evidence-based instead of ideology-based politics; e.g. the study recently published by the Energy Institute at the JKU Linz:

I sincerely hope this will achieve the importance it deserves on a broad basis in political discourse asap. The clock is ticking and a political agreement for this central piece of the national energy transition is crucially required.
