The EU Commission recently proposed revised rules for cross-border energy infrastructure. Hydrogen and P2G infrastructure included.
The EC proposal includes, among others:
– obligation for all projects to meet mandatory sustainability criteria and follow ‘do no harm’ principle in line with taxonomy
– end of the support for oil and natural gas infrastructure
– new focus on offshore electricity grids as well as hydrogen infrastructure including transport and certain types of electrolysers
– provisions on smart gas grid investments for integrating clean gases (like biogas and renewable hydrogen) into the existing networks
– measures to promote the uptake of smart electricity grids to facilitate rapid electrification and scale up renewable electricity generation;
– a revised governance framework to enhance the infrastructure planning process and ensure it is aligned with our climate goals and energy system integration principles
